AGENDA ITEMSComposition of Design Team: Discussion and agreement that the Design Team should be a fixed group of people who will meet and discuss design decisions. Participation at meetings may come in the form of one of a pair of members who represents a similar perspective or viewpoint, e.g. Paul or Mark are interchangeable as DPR representatives, Darcy or Liz are interchangeable as FFP Edge issue representatives. Project Goals and Park Issues:

b. fences around park boundary? what does the park boundary look like? c. dumping of garbage and yard waste d. signage at entry points e. encroachments on park property by adjacent property owners f. educating people about the use of invasive plants in gardens to reduce intrusion from the edge g. consider the ecological edge/transition - naturescaping in private yards, more formal native landscape as a transition from outside of park to inside h. danger and perception of danger parking on dead ends/street ends and impacts of that vs. Olmsted concept of boulevard park i. what to do with meadow at 31st and S. King j. views into the park from outside, e.g. from 31st and Jackson k. location of kiosks m. removal of the metal barrier at 31st and Jackson 2. Forest and Trails
b. bike access - places to leave bikes and walk into park, contact Cascade Bicycle Club about what would draw bicyclists to and through the park c. trail and park links - being part of a bigger system, idea of "Lakes Trail" from 31st and Jackson to lower Leschi and boulevard, link to Urban Trail from Capitol Hill to Yesler, funding sources for linked trails d. trails as education - interpretation along the way to explain ecological issues to users e. sustainability - forests and trails (low maintenance) and the implementers of the plan (volunteers) f. habitat enhancement/restoration to encourage desirable wildlife g. identify trails as they exist today h. consider naming trails for prominent natural features, e.g. Skunk Cabbage Trail trail for running along Lake Washington Blvd i. create destinations that give people a reason to stop, figure out what people want and take them there j. conifer regeneration 3. b. role or vision of Mr. Frink c. uniqueness of the park and linking it to others in the system d. assemble all historic info in one place (website? now live - www.frinkpark.org) e. signs and interpretation of history as it relates to today f. get a focus that catalyzes action g. b. wetland without tree component c. wetland above waterfall - invasives, pond, fine sediment transport d. stabilize channels where water is flowing e. native plants vs. invasive removal f. stream daylighting, fish? g. possibility of wetland creation below stream pipe inlet h. SPU funding for implementation of water quality improvement aspects of project leading to other funding sources as well i. Yesler corridor and ephemeral stream 5. Education and Outreach
b. longterm stewardship instead of abandoned projects c. tell the story of the park and what is ongoing d. partnerships/relationships with local schools (Leschi Elementary, Happy Medium, Garfield, Washington Middle School) e. create special projects beyond volunteers Confirmation of Park Tours and Public Meetings Dates, times, and locations of tours and meetings were confirmed as follows: Tours - 2 hour tours of Frink Park led by S&A staff and any FFP volunteers will be on June 8 from 6:30-8:30 pm and on June 12 from 9-11 am, meet at 31st and Jackson Public Meeting to get further public input in drafting final goals and objectives for park plan will be held on June 22 at the Senior Center at 7 pm. Project Timeline
b. coordination or inclusion in mayor's 20,000 tree planting goal c. contingencies if all portions of plan are not complete, option of at least completing portions that can go into implementation phase this fall/winter and taking more time for completion of entire product if necessary to have a better and more complete plan d. concern that public process will take place during summer months while many people are away on vacation and less able to participate Kiosk locations DPR has kiosk design and may have one or more kiosks ready to install immediately. Final location of kiosks (that can be removed or replaced later) should be discussed and decided upon by FFP. Kiosks will be helpful and visible way to keep public informed throughout process. Identification of Backround Materials and Sources All participants are encouraged to off-load any and all information about Frink Park with Sheldon and Associates staff. S&A staff will be contacting individuals for specific items. Communication: Do not send a "reply to all" if a single direct response to the sender will suffice. When sent a series of questions via e-mail, cut and splice them into your return with specific answers to each applicable question. Action Items
